In October 2025, Memory Dance’s biggest No Bounds happening yet: MORE Tales From A Hard City…

In collaboration with Picture Palace North, we presented an exclusive MONTH-long archive re-activation of Tales From A Hard City, the iconic Sheffield documentary of 1995.

Since its first screening thirty years ago the film has gathered a cult status and a legion of devoted fans including some big names: Jarvis Cocker, Badly Drawn Boy, The Chemical Brothers, Simon Cowell, Stuart Braithwaite, Andy Votel, and Patsy Palmer (aka Bianca from Eastenders).

Gaining access from the film's producers, Memory Dance transferred hundreds of hours of outtakes, related ephemera (cuttings, posters, log-sheets) and rarely seen archive collections from photojournalist and social documentary photographer, Bill Stephenson.

All presented for the first time alongside the original film, boxing doc Johnny Fantastic and more, in a multiscreen, multimedia gallery space. A cult documentary for Sheffield, South Yorkshire, rebooted and revived for the region - a new generation of fans were made.

To celebrate the launch we had an incredible event at the Old Hallam Post Office, with original cast members, friends, fans & family all in one place. What a night. The exhbition ran for nearly a month and the visitor book tells us that people travelled from North of the Border and That London, especially for the show
